ja, jako au pair - szczegóły

Tak, jestem kolejną osobą, która chce zostać au pair. Dlaczego? Nie oszukujmy się, ale przykra prawda jest taka, że zostanie au pair jest jedyną możliwością wizyty w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Jedyną możliwością, by spełnić swoje marzenia i zobaczyć te wszystkie miejsca, które do tej pory widywało się tylko w filmach. Duża część Polaków, w tym ja, normalnie nie miałaby żadnych szans, by wyjechać tam na własną rękę, a o otrzymaniu wizy nie wspominając. Wyjazd jako au pair otwiera wszystkie drzwi naprawdę szeroko i w tym przypadku nie trzeba wbijać się oknem, co i tak nie do końca by się udało. Tym razem trzeba więc kulturalnie skorzystać z owych otwartych drzwi.

Oczywiście nie jest to możliwość dla wszystkich. Jeśli ktoś nie lubi dzieci, to nawet niech nie bierze takiej opcji pod uwagę, bo wróci prędzej, niż pojedzie i wszystkie przygotowania pójdą na marne. Ja, na szczęście, dzieci uwielbiam i zawsze chciałam się nimi opiekować, co jest kolejnym powodem, by się w to zaangażować. Zdaję sobie oczywiście sprawę z tego, że bycie au pair jest przede wszystkim ciężką pracą, a nie samą rozrywką i zwiedzaniem, ale przecież nic się nie osiągnie bez dawania z siebie wszystkiego, prawda?

Naprawdę bardzo chcę, by mi się udało i bardzo dużo już poświęciłam. Nie tylko pieniędzy, ale też czasu i nerwów. Wierzę w to, że jak się czegoś bardzo chce i będzie się do tego dążyć ze wszystkimi siłami, wierząc, że naprawdę się uda, to na pewno się to osiągnie. 

Ten blog niech będzie takim moim dziennikiem o dążeniu do osiągnięcia swojego celu. Może przy okazji niektórzy z Was znajdą tu coś ciekawego dla siebie!

Od początku wiedziałam, że czeka mnie mnóstwo papierkowej roboty, ale nie spodziewałam się aż takiej jej ilości... Może odczułam to tak też dlatego, że zależało mi, by uwinąć się ze wszystkim w ciągu dwóch tygodni od pierwszego kontaktu z agencją. W dodatku tyle pieniędzy na to wszystko poszło, że wolę nie myśleć. Tak czy siak, udało się!

Co zrobiłam? Krok po kroku...
* Wybrałam sobie agencję w Polsce - Gawo.
* Wysłałam zgłoszenie.
* Zebrałam wszystkie potrzebne dokumenty (prawo jazdy polskie oraz międzynarodowe; paszport; dowód osobisty; referencje opieki nad dziećmi; referencje charakteru; zaświadczenie o niekaralności; świadectwo ukończenia liceum; zaświadczenie od lekarza o dobrym stanie mojego zdrowia; wypełniony test osobowości); wysłałam ich skany do agencji.
* Wpłaciłam pierwszą ratę.
* Przeszłam przez interview (który był naprawdę bardzo miły - pytania znajdziecie niżej).
* Wybrałam agencję w Ameryce (AuPairCare).
* Podpisałam umowy.
* Napisałam list do rodziny i dodałam do aplikacji.
* Nagrałam i wrzuciłam filmik.
* Zamknęłam i wysłałam aplikację; czekałam na akceptację.
* Odpowiedziałam Host Rodzinie na maila.
* Rozmawiałam z Hostem na Skype.
* Umówiłam się na termin przylotu :).
* Wpłaciłam drugą ratę.
* Wpłaciłam $160 do ambasady amerykańskiej; wypełniłam wniosek DS-160; umówiłam się na rozmowę.
* Odebrałam wizę!
* 4 listopada 2013 o godz. 6:55 wyleciałam do Stanów, gdzie zmieniło się całe moje życie...

Moja 'Host Family'
Mój Host to samotny ojciec, Nathan, 5-letniej dziewczynki o imieniu Alicia, mieszkający ze swoją matką i kotem :). Ich dom mieści się w Sharpsburg, czyli w miasteczku ok. 60km od Atlanty w stanie Georgia.

Ten list wcześniej wyglądał inaczej... Myślałam, że chodzi tu o to, żeby pokazać siebie ludziom, żeby mogli poznać nas ze wszystkich stron. Często jest tak, że można poznać człowieka po tym, w jaki sposób pisze oraz co pisze. Musiałam go jednak skrócić o ok. 2,000 słów!! Mam wrażenie, że w chwili obecnej nie ma do końca sensu, bo wiele rzeczy jest pourywanych, no ale cóż, niestety czasem nie ma się zbyt dużego pola do popisu i to jest właśnie jedna z tych sytuacji. Sory za wszelkie błędy :).

Dear Host Family!

My name is Agnieszka, I am twenty-one years old and I live in a capital of Poland – Warsaw, where I was born. I spent my whole life in the southernmost district – Ursynow – which is one of the youngest, and the most quiet parts of my city. There is a lot of amazing places to spend free time around. We have a beautiful Old Town in the center which is close to New Town and those are my favorite parts in Warsaw.

My mom died in 1999 when I was two months before my seventh birthday. Since that day, I have been living in one flat with my sister, my dad and his parents.

My sister is one year and a half younger than me so right now she is twenty years old. We are really close and we like to spend time together. I am really glad we could grow out of that and now I can say I am very thankful I have her and that we will have each other for the rest of our lives.

My dad said he kept his fingers crossed for me and he wanted me to make my dreams come true.

Also, we have a cat named Irys (in English – it is a name of a toffee candy) that is definitely the cuties member of our family!

On one hand I am a quiet girl but on the other one I have a lot of energy. Depends on a situation I am in and where I am at. I am always on time, I am responsible, honest, open for others and trustworthy. I always try to find at least one positive side of an each problem because it is helpful when I need to solve it. I believe that smile on a face can do a lot! I like to learn new things, meet new people and get to know them and their culture and so.

I have a lot of hobbies. The most important one is dancing. I went to my first dance class when I was six years old.

I must admit that I had a chance to try baseball and I totally fell in love with this game! My dream is to go to a real baseball game, definitely. I like such a ordinary activities like cycling or jogging, too.

I usually make gifts for my friends on my own. I think hand-made gifts are the best. I can draw, I write some stories and I have manual skills. I like to make some albums, maps or short films.

Traveling is my other hobby. I love to visit some interesting places. I have been to a lot of European countries.

I do not have an extensive experience of driving a car because I drove it for only four months. But I must say my teacher said: “Agnieszka, I am very impressed, you are a great driver!”. I have never had any problems with driving and even if I was very stressed before I started to learn how to drive, I found it very cool and now I can say I like it and I would like to drive all the time. I will feel comfortable to ride your children and they will be safe with me. I promise you, I will definitely drive more before I go to the States!

I have an experience in looking after children so now I will tell you something about that.

From June 25, 2012 to August 31, 2012 I lived with my friend and her daughter in Zywiec. I was taking care after a 7-years old girl named Gabriela. We spent the time together not only during the days but also in the evenings sometimes so I prepared meals for her, I bathed her and did almost everything. We did not have any problems in catching a contact with each other from the first sight when she was very little. Gabriela is a very cheerful and open minded girl with millions of ideas so it was really easy to find some activities that we both liked. We spent much time outside so Gabriela did not spend her free time watching tv or playing games on her computer.

Also my another friend has a daughter so I helped her as well. Her daughter's name is Kasia and she was 5 years old when I looked after her. We spent together the time from Jan 6, 2011 to Sept 30, 2011. I did not live with them in their house, I just was with Kasia from Monday to Friday, when they were living in Warsaw. I helped her with her English lessons as well. Actually I must say she was calm but she had some bad days when she was really not nice to me but we managed all the problems very well and quickly. Kasia had a chicken pox when she was with me so it was one of her worst times, it was not nice. But we went through that!

When I had holidays, two weeks, I went to my uncle’s house. He has a daughter who was three years old then, her name is Nikola. It was a pleasure for me when I could spend some time with her because she was the most positive kid I have ever seen! She could spend whole days on some playground and I am ashamed and shocked at the same time because she had more energy than I had! Anyway, I was really happy when I could see her smiling and running like crazy. Unfortunately, right now I do not have any contact with them. They moved to England and actually did not respond to any message I have sent to them.

What is more, my cousin has a sister whose name is Ola. She is ten years old now and unfortunately she has got epilepsy that could not be cured and she will need help for the rest of her life. So, when their parents had some problems (divorce) and her sister had to go to the university, I sometimes went to them (they do not live in Warsaw) few times a week and spent some time with Ola, I went to her school to take her and we walked to her home. She was eight then. She has special needs but she is very happy all the time, she is curious about the world. She asked million questions in every minute so I had to handle it. I must say I did not have much problems.

One of the biggest reasons why I would like to become an au pair is that I love to spend my time with children in all ages. I enjoy it when I can teach them new things and I believe we can learn a lot of new stuff from them, as well. I like to feel that I can help them in every way and I will do all I can to make them feel loved by me so they will feel comfortable and happy. I am sure my host family will not be disappointed in me.

I will be even more responsible and independent than I am right now.

I like to learn English language so I am happy I will improve my English skills.

Also, I have always wanted to go to the States. My dream is to live in California but I have million different places that I would like to see, too. I would like to meet people out there, to learn your mentality and culture, to breathe different air. It would be an amazing experience for me, for sure.
